Course Overview

The aim of this First Aid Response (FAR) course is to provide you with the knowledge, skills and attitude to become a competent First Aid Response.

The PHECC FAR course is the only first aid certificate recognised by the Health and Safety Authority (HSA).

The course covers all the essential aspects of Training. This course is perfect for anyone who is looking to gain emergency first aid skills leading to qualification as a First Aid Response.

First Aid Response

The First Aid Response course is a 3-day classroom course with 2 years of validity. It will enable people to give emergency care or treatment to an ill or injured person in the workplace, or elsewhere, before regular medical aid can be obtained. This unit covers all the aspects of general first aid and first aid in the workplace. Once you have completed this classroom module, the certificate will be mailed to you directly.

Course Content:

Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) & Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use including:

  • Heart Attack
  • Stroke
  • Foreign Body Airway Obstruction
  • Medical Emergencies (e.g. Diabetes, Epilepsy, Asthma)
  • Trauma (Bleeding control, musculoskeletal injuries, sprains and strains)
  • Poisons and Allergic Reactions
  • Burns & Scalds

Objectives:

On completion of this course participants will be able to:

  • Deal with First Aid emergencies in the workplace or elsewhere
  • Provide necessary first aid within the workplace
  • Understand and demonstrate essential life-saving skills
  • Know how to assess an incident
  • Understand how to manage a variety of conditions

Prerequisites

Good English.

Who Should Attend?

Those persons who may be called upon to respond to an accident or incident in the workplace where a person may be ill or injured.

Certification

This certificate is valid for 2 years, and is recognised by the HSA.

Complete a short SAQ: pass mark is 80%
Certification: Successful participants will receive a First Aid Response (FAR) Instructor Certificate
Duration: 3 Days

First Aid Course Recertification: 2 day course, once every 2 years

Who Should Attend:

Anyone looking to train others in the areas of emergency first aid skills leading to qualification as a First Aid Instructor. Under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2005 you should ensure that you have qualified First Aid Responses on premises, note that the FAR course covers this requirement.
Note: This programme requires a high level of trainee participation and interaction where the theory is enhanced by practical demonstration of skills and practical application by trainees.
